Cigna Transfers Routine Vision Services to Eyemed Effective January 1, 2023
Starting January 1, 2023, Cigna will become an EyeMed partner in managing routine vision services for most Cigna customers. Routine vision services include eye examinations by eye care professionals, disease detection, and prescription eyewear updates. Sometimes it could include hardware like frames, lenses, and contact lenses, but it depends on the benefit plan.
EyeMed Responsibilities:
- Direct contracts with ophthalmologists and optometrists for Cigna's routine vision network;
- Claims' processing and paying;
- Handling all customer service requests.
How will this affect the providers?
Beginning January 1, 2023, providers must be contracted with EyeMed to perform in-network routine vision services to Cigna coverage patients.
It will have no effect on the medical eye care services provided to Cigna customers.
