Is this applicable for OASAS clinics in NY State to use the U4 modifier when the services are provided in a language other than English, without using language assistance, because the rendering provider is fluent in that language?
Answer: provided by OASAS support center.
OASAS Certified Programs do not utilize the U4 Modifier for services provided in a language other than English. A Licensed Medical Language Interpreter, who is not the clinician, can be reimbursed using the T1013 “Sign language or oral interpretive services, per 15 minutes” procedure code.
Further information regarding the Language Interpretation Service reimbursement can be found in the OASAS Medicaid APG Clinical and Billing Manual.
